The first parts are gardens,
the commercial part of the Avenue starts after
the Rond Point des Champs Elysees / Avenue Montaigne.

The Avenue is 1.910 m long and 70 m wide.
The Champs Elysees are located in the 8th District of Paris.

The Avenue was created in 1670 under Queen Marie de Medici.
The street got its present name 1864 March 2.

The Avenue des Champs Elysées is is part of the "Axe historique"
that caracterises the shape of Paris
and that goes

from the statue of Louis XIV placed by the architect Ieoh Ming Pei
next to the Pyramide du Louvre

There is a project to further extend the Axe through the city of Nanterre.

It is located in the historic Paris Les Halles district.
The place is deeply rooted into the history of France,
Louis XIV already knew it before the Avenue des Champs Elysees existed
... back in 1646 when he was still a child.

According to the legend and around 1590
Louis XV's grandfather King Henri IV
built a tunnel from the Louvre so he could go to the building incognito.

Coco Chanel in 1920Hotel Ritz, Paris
Coco Chanel who lived at the Hotel Ritz loved to walk around Paris in the 1920s and the 1960s.
From the Ritz, located on 15 place Vendome,
she walked to the Champs Elysées
but she also walked to the Cremerie de Paris (15 rue des Halles).

The Ritz, currently under renovation is located in between, about half distance.

stop by Coco Chanel's famous store on 31 rue Cambon.
You can also walk through the Tuileries, alnd the Pyramide
and through the stunning coutyard of the Louvre.
